Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy |

METRO SPORTSMED® Outpatient Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy Program is staffed exclusively with licensed Occupational Therapists. Our therapy program aims to restore the highest level of function for patients with a variety of hand and upper extremity clinical problems.
The diagnoses and conditions which are treated may include:
- Amputations
- Arthritis
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Elbow injuries
- Fractures
- Joint injuries and deformaties of the hand and wrist
- Nerve condition: compression syndromes and post surgical repairs
- Neurological conditions: neurospastic hand disorders from brain or spinal cord injuries
- Shoulder conditions: post surgical rotator cuff repairs, shoulder impingements, and frozen shoulder syndrome
- Soft tissue conditions: Dupuytren’s disease, trigger fingers, and tennis elbow
- Tendon injuries, flexor and extensor tendon lacerations and post surgical repairs
- Traumatic hand injuries: crush injuries of the hand
Our services include an evaluation and an individualized treatment plan, which is tailored to meet the needs of the patient. Treatment programs may consist of the following procedures:
- Static and dynamic customized splints
- Range of motion exercises
- Strengthening exercises
- Skilled manual therapy including soft tissue and joint mobilization
- Neuromuscular re-education
- Sensory retraining and desensitization
- Physical agent modalities including ultrasound, paraffin, electric stimulation, TENS, hot/cold packs and fluidotherapy
- Self- care and home management training
